Located at Pier 86, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is a major cultural institution in New York City. The renovation of the hangar deck aimed to honour heroes while providing an educational and inspiring experience.

Working with the museum’s curatorial team, we assessed artifacts and content to use throughout the exhibition, balancing the 'machine technical' aspects of the ship with the emotive 'human stories' of its crew.

The hangar deck was redesigned with a central spine system of glass display units for artifacts. The reception area was updated for large groups and features a digital display of the ship’s commissioning. A new multimedia theatre at the entry offers insights into the aircraft carrier’s journey. This overall design enhances visitor engagement while preserving the National Historic Landmark’s integrity.
